Rain Barrels Presentation

Rain Barrels (and lots of other ways!) to Soak Up the Rain at Home

Hooksett Library, Wednesday April 19, 2023 6:30-8:00PM

Did you know that soaking up the rain that falls on your property helps prevent water pollution? Rain that runs off our rooftops, driveways and other hard surfaces carries excess salt, pesticides, fertilizers, oil, debris and more to nearby rivers, lakes and ponds. This pollutes them, making them unsafe for us and unhealthy for aquatic critters. Join us to learn how to prevent polluted runoff and improve local water conservation efforts with rain barrels, rain gardens, driveway trenches and other Do-It-Yourself Stormwater Solutions. As a bonus, a rain barrel, decoratively painted by Hooksett Middle School students, will be raffled off as a door prize!

Presenter: Lisa Loosigian, Soak Up the Rain New Hampshire Program Coordinator, New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) https://www4.des.state.nh.us/SoakNH

Lisa manages the Soak Up the Rain NH program, providing technical, educational, and outreach services through presentations, trainings, and project assistance. Lisa has worked in the stormwater field in the private sector and at NHDES since 2008 after earning a Bachelor of Environmental Sciences degree as a returning adult at the University of New Hampshire.

The program is co-sponsored by the Library, Hooksett Village Water Precinct, and the Hooksett Garden Club.
